Privacy Policy
AudioBrief ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information when you use AudioBrief:
- Account data: Your email address and password (hashed) when you create an account via Firebase Authentication.
- Article content: The text of articles you choose to brief. This is sent to our server solely to generate the AI summary and audio.
- Summary & audio files: The generated summary text and audio file are stored in your personal library (Firebase Firestore & Cloud Storage) so you can replay them from your dashboard.
- Usage data: Token balance, account type, and subscription status stored in Firestore to manage your plan.
- Payment data: Billing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never store your credit card number. We only receive anonymized subscription status updates from Stripe via webhooks.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and manage your account.
- To generate AI summaries and audio for articles you submit.
- To store your brief history so you can replay it.
- To manage your subscription and token balance.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not use your article content to train AI models.
3. Piper Local TTS — Zero Data Sharing
When you use the Piper local TTS provider, audio synthesis happens entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. No article text or audio data is transmitted to our servers in this mode. This is the most privacy-preserving way to use AudioBrief.
4. Third-Party Services
AudioBrief integrates with the following third-party services:
- OpenAI API: Article text is sent to OpenAI to generate summaries and (for OpenAI TTS mode) audio. OpenAI's Privacy Policy applies.
- Google Firebase: Used for authentication, database, and file storage. Google's Privacy Policy applies.
- Stripe: Used for payment processing. Stripe's Privacy Policy applies.
5. Data Retention
Your brief history (summaries and audio) is stored until you delete your account or manually remove items from your dashboard. You may request deletion of all your data by contacting us at the email below.
6. Chrome Extension Permissions
AudioBrief requests the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab / scripting: To extract article content from the current tab when you click "Brief it!".
- contextMenus: To add the "Add to AudioBrief Queue" right-click option.
- storage: To save your preferences (language, voice, style) locally.
- offscreen: To run the Piper TTS engine and audio playback in a background document.
We request only the permissions necessary to provide the service. We do not read your browsing history or track your activity across sites.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@audiobrief.cc.
